You do not need to understand every word. Listening A2 is about catching the goal of the message, the key detail (time/place/action), and avoiding guesses based on one familiar word.

Listening A2 checks if you understand short messages and everyday situations in Dutch (for example: appointments, transport, school, shopping, and phone calls). Your goal is to understand the main point and the key detail.
A typical task is a short message where you need to understand one key detail: time, place, number, or what you need to do next.
You may see a short video (for example at a shop, school, or doctor). The question usually focuses on the purpose of the conversation and one detail.
DUO states the A2 listening exam is on the computer: you watch videos and listen to messages, then answer questions. The exam duration is 45 minutes.
Time: vandaag, morgen, maandag, om 10 uur
Place: station, school, gemeente, supermarkt
Action: afspraak maken, kopen, bellen, betalen, ophalen
Reason: omdat, want, daarom
Step 1: read the question before you listen.
Step 2: listen for the key detail: time/place/number.
Step 3: if you replay, replay for 1 detail only.
Listen for intent: is this a request, invitation, complaint, or information?
Write down numbers: times, prices, dates, and phone numbers are often the answer.
Do not guess by one word: check that the full meaning matches the question.
Mistake: translating sentence by sentence.
Fix: listen for meaning + key detail.
Mistake: missing the last sentence.
Fix: stay focused until the end; the answer is often confirmed at the end.
Mistake: choosing by one word you know.
Fix: check that the full meaning matches the question.

Vraag: Hoe laat begint de les?
Antwoord: Om 9 uur
Vraag: Wat moet u meenemen?
Antwoord: Uw boek
2 minutes: read the question, predict topic (doctor/school/work).
